Green Steps recently welcomed a new addition to the team - Liz Bacchetti joins us as Marketing Assistant supporting all Green Steps communications including our student and professional programs. We asked Liz to share some of thoughts and insights into working in the sector and her role.
You can also find out more about her background on the Green Steps Team page.
WHAT DOES SUSTAINABILITY MEAN TO YOU?
It’s an ongoing process that involves constant and balanced attention. It’s an awareness that things are bigger than me, taking responsibility for my choices and being connected to the past, present and future. I grew up in a coal mining community and this heightened my understanding and awareness of these issues.
WHAT ROLE DO YOU SEE STUDENTS PLAYING TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE?
Students have a lot of energy and passion to enact change and reach beyond social conventions. Their involvement at all levels of decision-making is critical in arriving at solutions.
WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE AT GREEN STEPS?
Working with like-minded people who are all driven toward the same goal. Having been through the program myself, I’ve seen first hand how it can provide practical tools to push change.
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS KEY TO EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATING SUSTAINABLE ISSUES TO AN AUDIENCE?
I believe at the heart of all good communication is stories. People listen to stories naturally seeking to find values that reinforce their own. The sustainability narrative has a so many compelling stories to share. Optimism and honesty also go a long way.
